Founded by Turkish-Australian Didem Brennan, Patara Life is a brand that celebrates the beauty and craftsmanship of Turkish artistry. Didem's passion for Turkish textiles and design is the driving force behind Patara Life, with each product meticulously crafted to bring the essence of Turkish heritage to the Australian coastal lifestyle. Patara Life is built on a foundation of ethical production, sustainability, and supporting small artisan communities in Turkey.
"Patara Life" is named after the infamous "Patara Beach" (also known as Cleopatra beach) which is the longest beach in Turkey. In addition to being the home of the magnificent ruins of the ancient city of Patara, Patara Beach these days is a protected and natural sanctuary for the "loggerhead" turtles that continue to nest along this beautiful coastline.

Product Sourcing and Sustainability
Patara Life's commitment to sustainability and ethical practices is at the core of its business model. Products are carefully handmade by small artisans and producers in Turkey, with Didem working closely with small, often family-run businesses and even single seamstresses. Patara Life prioritises sustainable materials like organic cotton and linen, with partners holding certifications such as OEKO-TEX and GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard).
Patara Life champions a "slow" production process, using traditional methods like shuttle looms for towels and muslin cotton. This approach is not only a nod to traditional craftsmanship but is also more water-efficient than conventional manufacturing. Additionally, Patara Life uses vegetable dyes and treatments with a minimal environmental impact. By using natural fibres and metals, the brand aims to create durable, long-lasting products that are both versatile and environmentally sustainable. Even the packaging reflects this commitment, with custom-made linen drawstring bags from Turkey, avoiding mass-produced packaging.
Ethical Standards and Fair Working Conditions
Didem personally ensures the highest ethical standards and fair trade working conditions by carefully selecting producers and regularly visiting their workshops. Many of the partners are third and fourth-generation family-run businesses, and Didem has built strong, personal relationships with them. She visits her producers yearly, with her latest trip in March 2025, taking pride in cultivating relationships that support families and village communities in Turkey.
